hey me & my friend are doing this project abou geeks & we also try to break the stereotypes of the geek. But i have some questions, it would really help me with our project. So what do you think stereotypes geek would listen to? (music) & real geeks (not stereotypes) where do they listen to? Can you tell me how geeks dress, not the stereotypes :) what they do in their free time? Are geeks really that into pokemon, star wars & stuff like that? If you could anwser my questions that would mean alot

Stereotypical geeks, I feel, would listen to japanese pop music. Music such as the Pillows and the like.
Normal geeks listen to whatever they want! I listen to just about everything. A little bit of indie, hip hop, rap, rock, metal. It just depends on my mood! When you look at a geek, they’ve generally heard all of the “cool kid” music, and secretly (or not-so-secretly!) we like it too!
I’ve answered how they dress previously in my blog. They dress like normal people as well. I can’t say it for everyone, but I personally love me a pair of t-shirts and shorts, but sometimes I’m in the mood for a dress. It all depends on the day and how I feel.
I can’t tell you what we all do in our free time, but a lot of geeks like gaming, reading, and socializing. We’re really just normal people, I promise.
Some geeks are into pokemon and Star Wars. I love Star Wars, personally. I like Star Trek even more. It depends on the geek. Some aren’t into either of those, but just love reading. Some hate reading and just love to write. Anything anyone is passionate about can make them a geek. It all depends on the person and what they love to do!

Feel free to ask anymore questions or ask me to clarify if you need. :)

101 Geek Girl Stereotypes: #40 Geek Girls are Out to Prove We’re Geekier Than Boys.

I feel like this is one of the “truest” false stereotypes I’ve come across, especially in the boys’ minds. Quite frankly, gender isn’t a big deal to me. I love geeking out with my best guy friends (and getting schooled by them, on occasion), but I in no way have to prove anything to them. We all have things that we’re geekier about/more interested in and I love having information I didn’t know told to me, even if it is from a boy.

httpyournamecom asked:

Can you do a post on how to be a geek girl? Pleassseeeeee??? I'm not popular and I actually find myself not wanting to be, but I find myself wanting to be geeky!!!

I’m not sure I can, but what I can do is tell you what I’ve done that has entered me into the geeky/nerdy world. I hope that’s enough.
When I was younger, I used to play video games with my brothers. A lot. I would watch TMNT and Power Rangers. Occasionally I played with barbies and rode bikes, but I enjoyed at least watching my brothers game much more, and reading was even better than that.
At about 15 I started playing World of Warcraft and dating this guy who got me pretty heavily into first person shooters. I finally realized (although I knew before) how incredibly awesome Star Wars was and delved deeper into the lore. It just all blossomed from there. Between reading comic books, some manga, gaming, and watching sci-fi films I was well on my way to the geek I am today.
By 18, I was what you would call a “gamer”.  I also decided to get a degree in sciences and went to my first ComicCon. And this is where it all REALLY happened.
Now, at 21, my favorite show is a sci/fi show, I’m proudly watching Star Trek, I could go on and on about chemistry and biology with some physics thrown in, and days I don’t play at least some video games are strange for me.
But, without all of that, it would be impossible for me to be a geek without how passionate I am about things in life. If I didn’t love what I do so much I wouldn’t be a geek, it’d be just a hobby.
Typical people associate geeky/nerdy things with that that involves sci-fi, reading, comic books, video games, intense knowledge of some old cartoons (such as Transformers, Power Rangers, TMNT, etc…), math, science, and the like. Really, all it takes is to be passionate about what you love.
Feel free to shoot me another ask if you have any questions.

101 Geek Girl Stereotypes: #39 All Geek Girls Worship Joss Whedon.

Joss Whedon is awesome, I’ll give you that. He brought us Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Serenity, Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog, and now The Avengers. I enjoy his stuff. It’s enjoyable and fun, but so is your mom and I don’t worship her.

(For anyone who didn’t catch that, it was my sad attempt to be funny and keep you semi-interested in this blog, even though I never update.)

101 Geek Girl Stereotypes: #38 Geek Girls Are All Into Cosplay.

Granted, Cosplay is fun but it definitely isn’t for everyone. For one, I’m incredibly lazy. My idea of cosplay is throwing an outfit that’s currently in my closet together and calling it good. (Easy costume: Grab a buddy, wear either dress pants or a pencil skirt, a white button down shirt, and a suit jacket + blue latex gloves and you have The Hands of Blue from Firefly.) Cosplay is a lot of work, it’s usually expensive, and it’s mostly impractical. But I definitely can see the appeal.

101 Geek Girl Stereotypes: #37 Geek Girls Don’t Know How to Find Clothes That Properly Fit.

I actually prefer clothes that properly fit. They’re more comfortable, they make me look better, and they make me feel better. It’s not my fault if the shirts I find that are cool or neat don’t come in my size. Sometimes I do like to wear shirts that are nerdy/geeky, and you can’t always find them in a “babydoll” style, or a men’s xxxs, and heaven knows I can’t do anything remotely close to sewing.

More Excuses…

Alright. I gathered up a small(ish) list of some more stereotypes.
And then my laptop freaked out and died.
Don’t worry too much, I have it all backed up on my external so I can put it on the new computer I (finally) got and that I (finally) got internet access running on.
I just have to get microsoft word back running so I can open the files.

Thanks for your guys’s patience. I should have it back up and running this coming week because I’m going home and I can jack my parents’ microsoft word code!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

101 Geek Girl Stereotypes: Help!

Hey guys!

I swear, I’m constantly thinking about stereotypes for this blog, but I’m running low so the updates are sporadic.

An idea a friend had is that I should include pictures of the stereotypes posted. They’d be of yours truly proving the stereotypes wrong (to a degree. Some of these I would not want to post pictures of me doing!), and they would also keep this blog going while I think of more stereotypes.

So PLEASE send me in suggestions, or reply to this:

Questions

1. Would you guys be more interested if pictures were associated with the stereotypes?

2. What’s a geek girl stereotype you’d like to see in this blog?

101 Geek Girl Stereotypes: #36 Geek Girls are Either Supermodel-Hot or Vomit-Inducing-Ugly.

I’m a pretty average looking lady. I don’t have a rockin’ body and could never pull off a Wonder Woman costume (I can’t wear tube-tops because I’m built like a 2x4), but I’m not so ugly that I couldn’t fit into a Wonder Woman costume. I have a slender build (a nice way of saying I’m incredibly lanky), I have a face with flaws, my arms stick out weird, but I’m not by any means unattractive. I’m just not the type of girl you see and say, “Holy crap, she should be a model!”

I’m average, I’m a geek, and I’m happy with all of it.

101 Geek Girl Stereotypes: #35 Geek Girls all have/have had braces.

I sucked my thumb until I was 8. I remember when I stopped I got the game Mancala, a stuffed pink pig, and the Mulan soundtrack. Despite all the years of thumb-sucking, I never had to get braces and I’m betting on the fact that I never will have to get braces.

I was born with (mostly) straight teeth. I was lucky. I was also born interested in “geeky” things. They have no correlation.
